Oliver question

I have an Oliver 1600 with gas engine. On the front of the engine between the radiator hose and the head is something about 4" X 6" X 4" kinda rectangle on the end between the head and hose, kinda round on the other end with two flaired connections. Is this some type of cooler or heater. I can find no loose lines that may go to it. What could it be?
