I doubt it is a flywheel key, not a common occurance on the kohler engines. You say it has an ignition module and external points? Should be one or the other. If battery ignition, hook a test light to the positive terminal of coil. You should have battery voltage with key on. If not, check for power back at the ignition switch and then through all safety switches. If voltage is good at positive coil lead, connect test light to negative lead of coil. Crank the engine, test light should flash on and off at 1/2 the rate of engine revolutions. Important piece is that the test light flashes. If light is flashing and you still have no spark from coil, the coil is defective. If light fails to flash, the problem is with your points, either burned out or welded shut. Replace points and condensor after verifying the wiring is good.
