I was the grease monkey on a threshing crew for a few years, starting when I was 9 years old. The first year my job was to carry gasoline for the tractor and crawl through the insides of that big threshing machine morning and noon to grease all the shakers. It wasn't a pleasant job when the temperature was approaching or maybe a little over 90. But the pay was good. $4/day starting at 6:30 in the morning and getting back home about 6 in the evening. Big money for a 9 year old kid in those days. After the first year I got to line up the belt. Others have described accurately how to do it. I'm sure the last time I lined up a belt on a threshing machine was in 1956. thanks for reminding me of a mostly pleasant memory.
