DuPont stopped selling PTFE(Teflon) powder to the Slick 50 boys in order to try to curb the association between them and slick 50,but a court ruling in favor of slick 50 allows them(slick 50) to once again purchase the DuPont product. Remember the PTFE in slick 50 is a powder-a SOLID-that any decent oil filter will filter out. Briggs and Stratton ran 2 new engines-1 with oil ONLY and 1 with OIL and an additive.Each was run for 20 hours,then drained of all lubricants.Then each was run for 20 more hours with NOTHING in the crankase! They were then disassembled and although the engine with oil only was ruined, the engine with oil and additives showed the SAME results-The additives didn't do any better than plain old OIL! This stuff is making slick 50,Duralube and STP RICH!! These additives DON'T improve mileage,decrease friction while adding horsepower,or anything else they claim.
But,people want something easy in a can like a miracle cure for an old tired engine,when in reality these engines need tuneups, engine rebuilds,carb rebuilds etc.
You don't need a lead substitute in your gas and you don't need any additives for the oil,period. If it smokes or knocks or rattles,a cure in a can ain't gonna fix it.
Look in any store-the auto departments are well stocked with Snake Oils for one reason-people who don't know any better buy them,and lots of people don't know any better so they shell out 39.95,and thats what these companies count on.
