1974 JD 301

A friend of mine has a 1974 John Deere 301A or 301AG (not really sure) that used to be a State Highway department tractor. It currently has a sickle bar on it. It appears to have a mid-PTO that drives the sickle bar. There is a plate located in the rear that she thought might be a PTO but when she removed it, hydraulic fluid began to run out. She is wanting to know how big a 301A/AG (horsepower)is, if a belly mower could be setup to run off the mid-PTO, if a PTO could be added to the rear, and where she might find a manual. Any info would be appreciated I am sure.
