This is a tough call, because we all want a good part at a cheap price. If we don't support the dealers, they cease to exist. Look how many went broke in the last twenty years. Yet we want them around to provide advice on service, and provide parts. I had a local mechanic/ex-dealer rebuild a 3020 engine, which lasted two years because of his inexperience with JD brand. Dealer rebuild was over $4000, and still runs fine, so the first $2500 went down a rathole with off-brand parts. Trusted NAPA with parts for a 200 hp engine, never again. JD has dropped some prices because of auto store competition. If you make your living with your equipment, don't undervalue the value of a good dealer. Granted, not all dealers are good, I've bypassed several on the 100 mile trip to a good one because of the quality of the used equipment I could buy farther down the road, and especially the service provided. Dealers are people, and just like we do to them, some treat us well, and some try to pull a fast one. No easy, all-inclusive answer.
