This may not be the proper procedure but this is how I would do it. (1)Remove side cover from injection pump. Here with careful inspection you will see a gear. Rotate engine slowly till a gear tooth with a line on it appears. You are now on the correct stroke. The rotating plunger rotates half engine speed so it must be right there. (2)Remove timing plug in front of pump.(3)Rotate the engine till the pointer on the pump aligns with the drive hub. (very little rotation will be needed and please rotate eng. in direction of rotation).Your pump will now be in time as orginally installed. Suggest consulting manual on exact engine timing. When the pointer is aligned the flywheel timing or damper must be on the correct degrees before top dead center to be dead on. Wish I had a manual or engine experience. Just have to rely on pump building experience. Good Luck, Diesel Dan (the pump man)
