I am going to have a floor poured in a newly constructed pole barn. The contractor says he always puts a plastic vapor barrier under the floor to stop ground water from coming up thru the concrete. I asked about putting insulation (extruded polystyrene)under the pour, to insulate between the concrete and the cool earth in summer, to let the concrete warm up a bit so as to reduce the condensation when the warm moist air hits the cold concrete. He said he would be afraid the weight of the concrete would crush the insulation and the floor would settle and crack more than without the insulation. I live in upstate NY where the warm moist air is the norm in the summer. What do you guys think of the idea??
