But either adds a lot of wear & tear on the engine itself. :) It doesn't burn, it explodes in the engine, and it hard on the pistons, etc. Also, some Fords like the 7700 series have manifold glow plugs, do _not_ just shoot either into the air cleaner, it needs to be a kit that injects it at the right place or you will blow the manifold apart. If you have a tank/block heater & electricity and an hour, they'll always start. Make sure you use some #1 diesel in the cold, or lots of Power Service. The other thing in gas vs diesel: You need to tune up the gas often, for a few bucks. You need to do some major tuneups on the diesel every long while, which you probably need to have done, not a workbench project. At the end of 10 years you've spent about the same money on parts, and the diesel had less down-time. --->Paul

After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion.
