Electrolic rust removal-gas tank?

Got me a big rubermaid tub and been using this process on lots of rusty parts.Works great! Why can't I fill a gas tank with the mix and suspend a piece of stainless inside the tank and de-rust my tank insides that way? Seems to me this would work great,as long as the piece in the tank was secured to insure against a short circuit.
