Most 1/2 ton trucks have nothing for springs. How about adding a couple where it looks like you could without too much doubleing up. That is add leaves of a length that they will end between the ones in the spring. Usually add one longish and one shortish one. Will make the truck much better even for it's 1/2 ton rating. I put helper springs in. Look at a big truck and use this design, that is a short set of springs, usually about three leaves, on top of the stock spring. Mount stops for them on the truck frame. I have about 1" of clearance between the end of the leaf and the stop. Bolt rubber pads, (strips of tire sidewall) to the stops to dampen any noise. The truck will ride nice because the main springs are still fairly soft and as soon as you put a load on it it will settle onto the helpers and not much more. You will find having real springs in the back of a 12 ton will change it completly. It will handle at least 3/4 ton and more with no problem and make trailer pulling far better. I know, a lot of people are going to say that the brakes etc are not up to this additional weight. Maybe true, but you must take it easy if hauling a lot, and the trailer has it's own brakes so you are only steering it.

I’d probably plowed about 3000 acres (in my head anyway) by the time they found me. This is where my love for tractors started and has only gotten worse in my tender 50 yrs on this “green planet”. I’m par
