Sandblasting is quick way to clean up an old tractor, but it is very messy. I always repair first and then use a steamjenny or steam cleaner to clean it off. You can rent them for about 60 dollars a day and it only takes a couple of hours to do. You have to primer it within a day or two in most cases, but if the paint is old or chipping off, this works great! You have to go over the tractor with a wire brush sometimes to get little pieces, angle grinders work great, but it is alot easier to clean up than a sandblasting job. You don't have to take all the old paint off. It looks better if you do on sheetmetal but on cast, you really can't tell. I always use John Deere Buff Primer, It fills in rust pits and gives you a very good prime coat. If you have any more questions e-mail me and I'll see if I can help. Remember, the finished product is determined by the job you do cleaning beforehand.
