Cattle mostly need shelter from the wind. They do better with shelter from the snow/rain when it is really bad out. For grown cattle, they do not need to be penned up inside tight, and in fact often suffer more pnemonia than if they just have shelter from the wind & have to tough it a bit. However, if you can keep them comfortable & dry they will use their feed to gain weight, instead of wasting it to keep warm. Three-sided lean-to buildings are usually just right, gives them a dry spot in bad weather. Be aware that livestock & machinery don't mix very well in the same building. Cattle give off a lot of heat, dust, salt, & water vapor. This can really age your machinery fast! I'm not saying it can't be done, but be aware of the issues. --->Paul
