To grind grains, you need a feed mill, mixer
mill, hammer mill grinder. (all the same thing)
A good one is $1000 or so plus a tractor to run
it, you don't need it if you are buying your feed.

To grind tree branches, you need a brush
grinder, works differently, more like a cheese
grater.

For the garden greens, you need a couple of
cattle - they grind it up real nice for you, no
need to do anything. :)

Steers (males) are probably a bit better at
gaining weight. Heifers have the possibility of
being bred.... Either work, Steers are a bit
prefered.

Here is a rather eccentric group of folks that
get to bickering a lot, but they are
homesteaders who are doing what you want
to do and if you ignore the whiners the rest
have real good advise. You might want to
check them out, and they could sure use
some new blood to stir up good topics of
