Pure antifreeze or a mix of water and antifreeze does not cool as well as straight water. The antifreeze is obviously needed for corrosion protection, water pump seal lubrication (not in your case), freeze point reduction and so on. I've heard that the thermosiphon cooling systems will cool much better on straight water than a mix, so your best bet would be to go with the weakest concentration of antifreeze you could safely get by with. G Taylor also makes a good point about corrosion. I seem to remember from my tech school days that something like 1/8 of an inch of rust and scale has the same insulating ability as 1/4 inch of cast iron, so a corroded cooling system is definitely going to be hindered in it's ability to remove heat from the engine.
