Well, in our area of South West North Dakota we are considered "small" farmers. We seed around 900 acres of wheat and 100 acres of corn. Our largest tractor is a 2-wheel drive with 200 horsepower. We have a 28 foot drill and 6 row corn planter. We can anhydrous, work ahead, and seed everything in about a week and a half if me and Dad hit it hard. We have a pull type combine and an IH 1460 self-propelled combine. We also have 125 head of cattle, for those we have about 500 acres of pasture and 300 acres of hay land.

The "big" farmers in our area have from 2 to 3 of the largest four wheel drive tractors made, 2 or 3 of the largest combines made, and at least one hired man. They seed anywhere from 2500 to 10,000 acres of wheat, sunflowers, canola, corn, and mustard.

Our farm is only profitable on a good year. The last couple of years have been kinda tough. You see, we aren't big enough to get enough money from government programs to keep going. We couldn't make it if we had to buy new equipment. These days you have to be big to make it around here.
