fordsons have a reputation for being hard cold starts because the don't have glo plugs like most diesels. I am very much enjoying mine. it seems to be a very good tractor, however since I replaced the motor the pto doesn't want to disengage with the clutch.A compression test might be in order on the tractor you want to buy, I don't know how to do that on a diesel, but if the compression is low, it won't want to start.
