Seems to be lots easier to just buy a 8VDC charger from a auto store. Schumaker makes a 6/8/12 VDC charger. Has the generator been reworked to charge the 8V battery? IF not you'll contunally have this problem. There is actually no reasonable need to use a 8V battery, a properly maintained 6V system will perform just as well as any other starting system. My 1953 TO30 starts easily in cold weather( <0 deg F.) using the original 6V system, much to the chagrin of my yuppy neighbors and thier fancy toys. It's just a matter of preventative maintainence. Throw away those wimpy 12V battery cables(6 gauge) and buy some made for a 6V system(0 gauge), clean all connections, insure solid/tight connections, and perform a tuneup. You'll be rewarded with reliable starting when you need your tractor.
