How to use PowrTrol/Load control

I am new to using tractors and have a JD 1010 and read about the Powr Trol that will automatically raise or lower the implement. My manual doesn't explain when and why to use this feature. Can someone give me some explanation about when and when not you would want to use this. Is this just for plowing or would you also use it for bush hogging? Do all tractors have this?
