I think you are getting advice for a tractor that is too big. You don't need 50 hp for what you propose to do. A Farmall H is about 26 hp and it would be more than enough for what you will do. Of course, if you buy something new the hp is over inflated by comparison with some of the older ones. I'm not a Ford guy but I do respect them for many reasons. A 600 series would be plenty for what you expect to do and they are only about 30 hp. I would steer clear of an older John Deere, unless you go all the way back to a two cylinder. Then a 50, a 520 or 530 would be adequate for your needs. An ideal tractor for you might be a 300 or a 350 model International. Plenty of power, parts are readily available, and they are almost bullet proof. MF makes several good ones, good hydraulics, easy to operate, and not expensive to buy. I have lots of respect for several of the Minneapolis Moline models, but parts are getting to be a challenge for them. Actually, there are so many good ones when you look at the oldies, and only a few to avoid. Get one for which parts are available. If you buy any old tractor you will find yourself developing affection for it and respect for all it can do.
