The SoS worked pretty good for as old as they are. The problem is that any transmission needs some major work every 20-40 years.... obviously. :) Now, with three clutches instead of 1 or 2, and a lot of other gears ^ shafts added, the repairs, maintenence, & such are going to cost a lot more. Most of the time, people hang on to an SoS because they are handy, _until_ the tranny starts to fade, and then they get rid of them. Some of the parts are getting hard to find as well. So, SoS tractors usually (and should) got for about 1/2 the price of a similar tractor with a good 5-speed in it. If you know all this & understand it, then an SoS can be a fine machine. If it's at the end of it's life, and you don't do your own mechanical work, it would not be smart to pay top dollar for an SoS. --->Paul
