We run NH 650 balers which run 1500# full sized. Most of the time we run them set at 1000-1200#. Also used to run NH 847 (1000-1200#). Samllest tractor we have is a 62 hp Ford 5600. It does fine on all terrain. Really steep hills it will run almost to hot but otherwise does fine. I like 85 hp better (Ford 7600, 7710, and 7610). They really pull it well, even at the 1500# setting. At one time I had a 105 hp 2090 Case, it obviously did a good job but I no longer have it. the three 7--- series Fords are our biggest tractors. We also bale with a 1210 and 1410 Case-DB, they do not do as good a job. Engines are smaller but turn 65 and 82 hp respectively. This proportionally more fuel burned per cubic inch of engine and they want to get hot in a hard pull unless you gear down. As a rule of thumb you can buy more hp for less money. Eg I paid $8500 for the 2090 and $7500 for the 7610. Sold a 5600 for $11,000 last spring and it had more hours than either of the others.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
