I'm still interested if $5,000 is a good price and need to get back to the seller shortly. On the starting issue the tractor starts with right up. I asked about the starting issue and the owner says that the older ones with the d-282? engine had glow plugs and did have starting problems. He says that this one has the D-312 that dosen't have or need glowplugs. In the spring, summer and fall it starts right up. With a good battery the same is true for cold days but says when it gets really really really cold (10-20) that I'll need to preheat the engine through the block heater. He says it still might start but why run down the batteries or use ether. Owner went on to say he rebuilt the engine (sleves, pistons, bearings)and it only has 30 or 40 hours on it. The engine was rebuilt because it developed pinholes in sleves that allowed coolant into the oil. Crank and camshaft didn't show signs of wear and were measured to make sure they didn't need to be cut(he used some technical terms). The owner seemed to want to tell everything that ever went wrong with the tractor. The only outstanding items are the TA clutch needs to be replaced and one spindle steering arm is loose (other side was welded). Owner says it will be fine in the low range and I don't need to run out and fix this. Is it expensive and is this true?? The paint is in good shape and the sheet metal looks good except for some small dents here and their. The tractor dosen't have fenders on it but owner has a pair he'll give me. The fenders came off a tractor that had an roll bar fender combination but the roll bar was cut off at the top of the fenders. They were in rough shape bent a little with some rust but functional.

A Question for Dads This recent topic from the Tractor Talk discussion board is being highlighted because it is an awesome display of the caliber of individuals that have made this site their own. The young person asking questions received positive feedback and advice from total strangers who "told it like it is" with the care many reserve for their own kids. The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
