On the 4th there was a question posted by Spud Head for which I gave an over simplified answer, but which Steve-IN answered as simply yet more plainly and concisely than I. For my own sake I did a little more rersearch on the subject and found that all HP still isn't "created equal". In the posted question, the stated HP was mechanical, which Steve was right on in saying is equal to 33,000 ftlb/min. What I found is there are other types of HP, which if a man had an antique steam operated machine, or something electric powered, or water driven these figures would be applicable to the given type of power. They would also come into effect if for instance you were repowering a machine with an electric motor vs an engine, or something to that effect. Boiler HP is rated as 43,4107 ftlb/min-----electrical driven is rated at 33,013 ftlb/min------water driven is rated at 33,015 ftlb/min. Steve explained where the rating for mechanical HP came from, and I remember it somewhat from school, but does anyone know where the ratings for these other 3 came from and why they are all different?
