Yep, we're all feeling the pinch. However, I'm pretty upset by the excuses that we're all fed by the t.v. and radio reporters. I kind of wonder why they do it. They spend so much time doin all these hair brain "investigative" reports and then turn right around, bring up their supposed consumer reporter who tells us that gas prices are going up because people in venezuala are rioting and their oil isn't coming in like it used to. He then follows that with a simple,"Doesn't that stink?" Yes it does and so does the report. Please follow me as I give you a little ole tour of this pathetic issue. First of all, oil from venezuala is pretty important right? Sure it is and if it gets cut off then we need to increase prices. Right? Well, venezualan oil is so important that it makes up a whopping 8% of our total oil. Yeah. Second, if our prices are going up because of unrest in some other country, be it iraq or venezuala, then why so much variation from one neighborhood to another? Now, I can understand that oil goes to different refineries in different regions and there may be some price difference due to that. However, here in southern ohio i don't fall for that. In Adams county one week prices were around 1.40 or so while just two hours west in cincy they were closer to 1.20. Up in columbus they were around 1.20 as well. Now, I don't think that poor adams county gets their gas from a refinery different from cincy or columbus. So the region thing doesn't convince me either. After all, adams county may be in a different economic state but it's not in a different region. Thirdly is the good old price jumps. First thing bout that is the good old holiday hopskotch. We've all seen it, even the news people know it and even tell us about it beforehand. "better fill up before this weekend's labor day holiday." Now, how is this explained? Well, it simply isn't. We just let it go and fork over the cash. Why? If we as farmers tried to do that with food they'd charge us with terrorism or something. Finally is something I noticed last week. I'd been hearing all this about the venezuala thing and how it was causing prices to go up to the 1.40's about the day they announced it. Well a few days later I hear a story about OPEC. They said that they were going to increase production. Now, correct me if I'm wrong but don't the prices usually go up as soon as they say OPEC is cutting production? Well I figured,"since they've upped production then there should be just as quick a drop in the price." Well my friends take a guess at what happened. Yep, you're right. Absolutely nothing happened. So there you have it friends. Your tour of the oil excuse fiasco is over. Hope nobody gets eye strain from reading this. God bless.

The Ferguson System Principal An implement cutting through the soil at a certain depth say eight inches requires a certain force or draft to pull it. Obviously that draft will increase if the implement runs deeper than eight inches, and decrease if it runs shallower. Why not use that draft fact to control the depth of work automatically? The draft forces are
