It was very hard to get to the flywheel on the old handcranked 2 cyls when they had cultivators and/or planters mounted on them , some people got down on the ground and turned the flywheel from the bottom side to crank them. There were a lot of them that when they were warm, you could take your foot and turn the flywheel just a little ways and if the magneto impulse was strong you could crank them like that, worked best on the model H, I had heard of this many times and decided to try it, and sure enough it cranked up in gear in the the shop, all I could think to do was holler "WHOA", lucky dad was close enough to pull the clutch lever back and stop it from going through the wall. Saw a guy win a bet one time, he took a rope and wrapped it around the belt pulley of an "A", and cranked it,turned out he had thought that trick up one day in the back side of nowhere when he shut the tractor down to adjust cultivator and the battery would not crank it back up, sure were a lot of us suprised that day!,. Was raised at a JD dea;ership , father was a partner from '39till'62, but dont recall ever hearing about any thing like a foot start attachment, except that most all of them had foot pedals to mash when you wanted to start the tractor. The draft forces are
