Just like anything else you buy on E-bay or where ever, it's all a simple matter of buyer beware. I have bought many manuals off there over the past two years without any disapointments at all. Like Kevin said, the first thing you have to do is ask questions. There are many knowledgable sellers on there, but probably twice as many that think if something is 20 years old, or they have never heard of it, it is a "rare collectable" and they want a premium price a $5 manual. I mainly look for heavy construction equipment manuals, more so than agricultural stuff, and if you've ever priced some of them, service books can run in excess of $200 easily, so paying $50+ for a used one, even with finger prints and minor damage is well worth the price. Add to that the fact that many mfgs. are looking to eliminate paper manuals all together in favor of computer manuals because of cost, and it makes the old stuff that's no longer in print, worth a premium price right off, if you need the manual bad enough and are willing to pay for it. On that note, I have recently had the opportunity to aquire almost 4 truck loads of equipment manuals, ranging from Wisconsin engines, to Miller welders, to NW, BE, American, Grove, Manitawoc, and Link-Belt cranes, CAT equipment, Koomatsu equipment, Wabco, IH Hough, JD equipment, Case equipment, JD diesel engines, Cummins Diesels, Detroit diesels, Murphy Diesels, Allison transmissions, Funk transmissions, and many, many more types and manufacturers of equipment, many of whom are no longer around, or the books are out of print. I have looked at several of the current suppliers of aftermarket manuals to compare their selections to what I have, and I have many manuals they don't. From what I've seen in my collection, most manuals printed from the late 70's/early 80's til now are copyrighted, but before that, most weren't. I am considering starting into the business myself, and would like some feedback as to what you'd like to see in a manual, (ie- binding type, blank pages for notes, what you consider a fair price/markup over printing cost, types of books interested in, etc etc etc.) Please feel free to E-mail me at nota55Nomad@AOL.com with any comments you may have. Thanks in advance. Wayne
