Well, you guys started it....got me in the remembering mode....back when I was a young man. Bought an old 54 Chrysler with the 331 hemi in it. It immediately came out and went into my old 37 chevy coupe....with some head work, Isky cam, adjustable pushrods and a shoe horn....(had to pry the front fenders out to get the valve covers off to adjust the valves.) It was mated to a 48 Cadillac transmission and Oldsmobile 410 rearend. One of the main differences that I noticed between it and the hot 283s and 348s of the time was...if you revved up the Chevy to five grand and dumped the clutch, the tach would drop back to about three grand and go from there. With the hemi....the tach would just flicker a little and rip out driveshafts, drive the shocks up through the boot floor, rip the traction bar welds out of the frame and make you go back to the drawing board for more engineering skills. It was a fun thing with oodles of torque. You asked what a hemi is....well about this time period....I would have said "a monster." Thanks for the memories. L8R....Fred OH

He had told my father
