First, I've never been in the service myself, but I worked as a civilian contractor for many years alongside Marines. My stepson is in the Marines now, and I have many friends in the service, so I know a little bit about the military life. Do you have any plans for what you want to do with your life? Do you have plans to go to college, or maybe a vocational school? If not, then military service is probably a good choice for you. You'll have to commit to four to six years of service, which sounds like a lot. Believe me, it isn't. When you get out, you'll come home and see your friends still flipping burgers at McDonalds and hanging out, just like when you left. You, on the other hand, will have seen and done things they can only imagine. You might decide to make a career of it, but some guys just need four years to decide what to do with their life. Most guys I know that have been in the service seem to agree that the Navy is the best overall, considering the schools, conditions and opportunity to travel. But all of the other services have something to offer. Naturally, I've got a soft spot for Marines. Make sure that you talk to recruiters from each of the services before you commit. (Don't forget the Coast Guard.)

In addition to years and years of scuffing and fading, they had paint splattered on
