Bert, I have not been in service, but i tried to join during the Vietnam conflict (war) but couldn't get in for medical reasons. I have two sons now in the National Guard. They were deployed about two weeks ago and are heading overseas. I asked one the other day would he recommend others to join. He stated that it depended on the reason they were considering it. He does not regret joining and is getting a lot of benefits (college, travel, etc) from the Guard. Best of all it is serving this great Country US of A. You will always be proud to have served. it is dangerous, but as others have said it is dangerous on the highways or streets as a civilian. Good luck and God bless.
