I wish I had joined. When I got out of high school I figured they wouldn't take me for health reasons, never even tried. I wish now I had. It is an honor to serve your country. I figured the next best thing is being a firefighter or police officer, which I have been a firefighter now for 4 years. Like someone else said, 4 years seems like a long time but I graduated high school in 95 and I still know a lot of classmates who work at Wal Mart, and are waitresses and crap like that. Keep in mind that there is always the threat of death/injury, but you could choke on your ham sandwich tonight and die, too. I am still young, but a wife, new baby, and mortgage prevents me from joining now. If I was going to join my choices would be - Marines(Infantry, if you're going to do it, do it right!), Army, Navy, then Air Force. I have a friend who just got out of the Navy, he said the discipline on his ship (a Frigate) was much more lax than for the Marines on board. Think long and hard about it before you decide. Good luck! Fireman
