Jbuck, I applaud you for even considering serving in the Army. My wife and I have 60 years of commissioned service in the USAF and USAFR and we are both proud of our service and certainly, not regretful. My advice: don't defer college or technical school for service, if you're so able. Perform military service after school, when your enhanced skills may be better utilized. However, if you don't plan on further education until after military service, my hat's still off to you. Go for it. Pay, benefits, travel, tuition assistance, etc are worthy enticements, but your ultimate goal must be service to country. And, remember, you will have a lot of left wingers, educators, and those who don't appreciate service other than to themselves, as critics. That, in fact, makes your service more valuable, regardless of the service or capacity in which you serve. Good luck with your decision.
