Hold the coil output wire about a half inch from ground and cause sparks by opening the points manually. The spark should be blue and jump that gap. If the spark is yellow replace the condenser and repeat the test. If its still yellow and thin, then the coil is going. If it won't jump that far the coil is probably bad. The check at atmospheric pressure has to jump a lot longer than in the cylinder because compressed air is harder to break down. Gerald
