Most oils are for use in gas and diesel engines. Just look at the oil containers. It will tell you if it is for gas or diesel by the grade of oil if the first letter is "S"it is for spark ignition or gas. If it is "C" it is for compression ignition or diesel. It is graded by the API service Example normal grades for diesel CH, CJ, CI The C is for compression ignition. Example for gas would be SJ, SH, SL THe S is for spark ignition. The second letter in both types is the quality ofthe oil. THe farther down the alphabet, the higher the quality. I had good experience with Mobil Delvac 1200 too. We had a self propelled haybine with a 4cyl. perkins in it. Never overhauled with 6,000 hours and 25 years old. It was always running hot as haybines do when they accumalate too much dust on the radiator. Had it since new and only used Mobil. THe oil pressure gauge line sprung a leak and left the oil run out and Spun a rod bearing. When I tore the valve cover off, I was amazed at how clean it was inside. No buildup or sludge. I wouldn't have been afraid to eat my supper out of the valve cover without washing it. Cylinder walls looked great with a perfect cross hatch yet. THe engine would have run a long time yet. Hope this helps!
