I used to use a reddy heater, salamander type, 60k btu. It was good, but noisy, and heated too fast. Now I use a Kerosun 23k btu kerosene heater, that makes it warm enough to work, has no maintainance, and is simple to work and quiet. The only downside is Kerosene just went up in price to $2 gallon, with new taxes. Still this comes out to about 30 cents an hour to run it. If you put down some plastic on the floor, and carpeting, it will keep that cold off of the concrete floor. In my home I use an Alaska Stoker coal stove, that would work good in any shop, but you would have to keep it running. This stove is adjustable from 5 to 70 thousand BTU. Good Luck.
