Ford tractor

I own a Ford 2n tractor with an unusual item. I would really like to know what it is for. It sits just below the steering wheel. To install it, you remove the steering wheel ,put it on and then re-install the wheel. It has a grease fitting and it raises the steering wheel 3 or 4 inches. Any help would be appreciated Mike
