If you are appraising farms or open land and want a good consertive appraisal call you local Farm Credit office and ask who there approved appraisers are for their loans and what they charge. I work for Farm Credit here in Va and we sub-contract, if you will, appraisers on every real estate loan that we do and we have good land and farm appraisers that we use. Anyone that can pass a test can appraise property but only the good ones will work with the lending institutions, we are too demanding on an appraiser to get the weak companies.
