I was not sure 8 volt batteries were available. To charge a 8 volt battery, connect a 4 ohm, 20 watt resistor in series with one of the DC battery leads from a 12vdc charger. Radio Shack has 8 ohm 10 watt resistors, just connect both together in parallel (not 'daisy chain' or series connected). This will limit current to about 3 amps. I may want to use the new to me tractor at -10 degrees F or mabby lower temp. I do not like a 6 vdc system & really do not like 12vdc on a 6 volt starter either. As for lights, add another resistor to drop the voltage back to 6vdc. Thus, a 6 volt, 25 watt light would need 1.5 to 2 ohm resistor to keep within a 7.0 volt range or 6 volt system voltage when the generator is running. I think I'll go for it. The regulator has an adjustment for high voltage limit or cutout. This would need about 9.1 volts for charging. Other option is go with a 12vdc system. Are 12vdc starters available for a 174 cu in gas engine 1958 Ford 900 series tractor engine?
