6V to 8V is a bad decision. I made it on an Oliver 70 two years ago, and now am switching back to 6V after a rewiring to take full advantage of 6V. The points and condenser are burned, and God knows what else. Then you have the issue with lights. Bulbs for these old tractors are not easy to come by. Someone below makes statements about problems caused by using lighter-guage 12V battery cables on 6V systems. This is a real problem--and not easy to solve, as the "0" ga. cables can be hard to find. To charge an 8V battery, 9.6 volts should be coming from the generator. These 8 V batteries are avail. at most suppliers. But don't get one! I'd rather go all the way to a 1-wire 12V system, if I had to change.
