My Data shows that Mobil 1 is superior to Havoline 3: Viscosity Index--Flash Point--Pour--Ash(solids) Hav. 3....139 ----430-----. -30F-----1.0% mobil 1....145-----455------. -49F-----0.0 (w/supersyn) OLD Mobil 1....160-----450------ .-65F-----0.0 So,as you can see by the numbers Mobil 1 is the better choice. What bothers me about Havoline 3 is the ash content-it's one of the highest on the market, and ash (solids left over when burned) is what causes sludge, and that's what we try to avoid. Best advice to all,use a good grade of oil(the best you can afford). Change it more often than even the manual calls for. NEVER put faith into ANY additive,It is truly "snake oil" .The oil you buy already has additives in the formulation, adding others may inhibit the performance of the actual engine oil. Use Detergent oil! detergents keep particles in suspension until the filter can remove them-we're all stuck on that "Detergent" word,It's not like Tide-It HELPS keep your engine clean by keeping the stuff in the oil so it won't settle out and make a clump in the bottom of the pan, rather it allows the filter to work,to filter the particles out-It WON'T clean it like a soap. Thermal shock breaks more carbon loose than detergent oil. If you compare aviation synthetics that jets use to Mobil 1,you can't! Mobil 1 is not a true synthetic. The synthetics used on commercial and millitary aircraft would last forever in my Super H,as long as it was filtered. The Dino oils can not compare with the synthetics, period. By the way,I've seen the synthetic fluids used on the SR-71/A-12 aircraft and that stuff is almost solid at room temperature, can you imagine having to pre-heat your tractors oil for two hours before each use!
