The early H's were equiped with a cut out. The later H's were equiped with a regulator from factory. Not sure of the actual year for the transition but I think it was in the later 40's. The cut out required the 4 way light switch. The light switch not only turned the lights on, it also controlled the cut out/ generator for low or high charge. It was nescisary for the operator to have the cut out in the appropriate setting. When the regulator was put on, the regulator itself controlled the charging and the 4-way light switch was not needed. Therefore when the H's were released from factory with a regulator, they then only had a 3 way light switch that only controlled the lights. The cut out was mounted on top of the generator from factory. Not sure where the regulator was mounted from factory. The enternal cut out only had one set of points. The regulator had like 2 or 3 sets of points. The cut out I think had 3 terminals, and the regulator had maybe one more (not for sure). Many electrical systems have been altered in many possible ways over the years. To figure it out you must first know what it was originally from factory. Then you need to find out how the system has been altered over the years. Then decide how you want it set up. Then actually do the work and the nescisary changes to have it set up the way you want it. Many people have a non-functioning charging system and don't take the time to find out how it is suppose to be to have it the way they want it. They add and replace and change around and don't understand what is going on to start with. You must first do the research and know what is going on first. That is probably the first thing that gets people in trouble. The various possible ways it can be set up is unlike any of modern day equipment. Take the time to understand first. That will help you greatly. And remember that the H was positive ground 6v from factory. Many times it has been converted to negative ground and or 12v.

Old Time Threshing - by Anthony West. A lovely harvest evening late September 1947, I was a school boy, like all school boys I loved harvest time. The golden corn ripens well and early, the stoking, stacking,.... the drawing in with the tractors and trailers and a few buck rakes thrown in, and possibly a heavy horse. It would be a great day for the collies and the terrier dogs, rats and mice would be at the bottom of the stacks so the dogs, would have a busy time hunting and killing, all the corn was gathered and ricked in what we c
