5W-20 is available at Wal-Mart, or at least it is around here. Has been for some time. Like you said, Ford changed the spec for gas mileage reasons(the federal gas mileage rules, specifically). I read in a car magazine where the 5W-20 adds about 0.2mpg to the gas mileage in an F-150. That doesn't seem like much, but if you factor it across hundreds of thousands(if not millions) of vehicles, it adds up pretty quick, and it keeps the feds happy.
