When I was a kid, (30 yrs. ago) we had a neighbor that had I think what you are talking about. It was factory made but I can't remember the name on it. It resembled a sled without a bottom and it pulled along behind the square baler and the bales fell off the chute into the sled, or basket. It had an endgate on the rear of it with a trip rope that ran to the tractor. When the basket was full you pulled the rope and all the bales slid out the back in one spot, the endgate reset itself as you continued to bale and the process was repeated. The purpose of this was to eliminate having to drive along and pick up bales on the go. We would drive from one pile to the next and stop and load. This way the tractor driver could get off and throw bales on the wagon and two people could haul square bales. It was probably where someone got the idea for the accumulators we use today to gather square bales so we can handle them with a loader tractor. Sorry I can't remember more about this contraption.
