What about them "work ears"?
When they were building my house some of the framers and roofers wore these ear muffs that had radio mounted inside. Had a small antenna on the side. Worked good way out here in the piney woods which surprised me. Benefit it is also ear protection like others here have already mentioned.

Anyways, I been thinking of something along that line.
