I am confused by some aspects of this. As to more earth worms I understand the increase as the land is not being "worked". However, are you attributing better drainage & tilth to the increase in worms and their actions or because the land has "settled" thus drainage improvements are due to water seeking its own level resulting in high yeild areas and less yield areas (good areas vs. bad areas in same field). I have a 20 acre field (convential tillage) I have been trying to dry out yr. after yr. and would welcome ideas. I operate old iron and no experience with drainage tile. I am attributing wetness to tillage as land has been agressively reclaimed. To dry it out prior to planting I run my harrow about 2-3" deep to turn the top and get it exposed.
