Where do you live? I would check with the county building department first. In our area the state will sometimes help pay the cost to build a pond as a watershed. My pond was built by the Army Corps of Engineers and the state paid half the cost. That is how I understand from the previous owner. Sure worth looking into. You also need to be aware of the liability issues. Should the pond give way, you could be held liable for property damage to others. Also, around here, we have very strict surface water rights, and your pond can not infringe upon another mans' water rights. Get the county's "blessing" to avoid trouble. That's my opinion, which is worth everything I charge for it.
