How they work is you are contacted by e-mail and asked to send a picture. The person that contacted me was Marsha Brown from Marsha's antiques who claimed to have a customer interested in my tractor. Since I sell afew parts and some are through a third person thats not that strange. after I sent the pictures a few days later the e-mail came that said she wanted the tractor. Business name, address and phone included, along with the information that she was on the road on business and that I would recieve a certified check and her agent would contact be about picking up the tractor. The next post said since she was in West Africa she had a client that owed her and she was going to have him send the check from here in the states. The next post said that her client was also on the road and so he would send the full amount he owed her to me and would I please foward the balance to her. I mailed back and said that it sounded kind of fishy. Her next e-mail assured me that it was on the up and up and described the item she had sold, and the check was on the way. The check came Fed-Ex from Maryland drawn on a bank in Ohio. Since it still seemed odd I deposited the check to see if it would clear. It cleared in 1 day and the bank assured me I had the funds. Rather than run out and wire her $5000+ I waited a few more days and the bank called to tell me the check was counterfit check but it had passed the electronic scan and was only caught when sent to the bank it was issued on. The Secret Service says thousands have lost cars this way signing a title and making change on a bogus check that the banks don't catch untill its to late. There are some smug people that say they just delete e-mail offers well two things happen then 1. they never sell anything and 2. the feds never get a chance to catch these people. At least print the e-mail and send a copy to the Secret Service. They didn't scam me but they have and will get alot of others if we don't try to stop them. John

Old Time Threshing - by Anthony West. A lovely harvest evening late September 1947, I was a school boy, like all school boys I loved harvest time. It would be a great day for the collies and the terrier dogs, rats and mice would be at the bottom of the stacks so the dogs, would have a busy time hunting and killing, all the corn was gathered and ricked in what we c
