The feds are forming up national laws on this, and new machinery must comply with it. Old machinery might be grandfathered in. Or it might not, depending on your state. In the end, your state is responsible for enforcing these laws, and kind of chooses whether to follow their own set of laws, the forthcoming national set, or a combination of the two. Also if they are letter of the law types, or farmer-friendly types - they have the power to write tickets or not, no matter what the national laws are. Talk to your state partol, it makes them feel good to have people asking, and is the only way to know what applies to you specificly where you live. On a 4-lane or transporting across state lines, I'd want to be following fed laws (hello DOT!) to the letter. Where I live, the state patrol doesn't care about non-state highways or farmers, and local sherriffs are farmer-friendly, so a lot goes by if you are traveling smart, not causing problems. They have really clamped down on weight restrictions tho. --->Paul
