I'm going to slightly disagree with you about salvage yards being the only source. People used to sell their own treasures a whole lot at swap meets, before they were priced out of the hobby by way too high space fees. I know I've given up selling at swap meets because of the price. I've had some tell me I'd have to pay $200 for a 10x10 space. There's no way to sell a pickup truck load of treasures for a profit at that kind of expense. It's just not worth it for private people to sell tractor (or car) parts at swap meets and flea markets any longer. But on the reverse side of that is e-bay. That has opened up a huge market for private people to sell parts, and they do. I do hate seeing all the empty spaces at swap meets, and the loss of really good deals that were to be had there. But I understand selling on e-bay. I do it some myself, parting out various equipment. You can make a lot of money in parts via the web.
