You are correct to a point about the collectors being the enemy. They have created a market where even though the demand is relatively small, salvage operators think that they can demand outrageous prices for used parts. The operators figure that someone looking for an old J.D. part must be some rich guy with a hobby, so price is no object. If you happen to be somone who is actually working some of this old iron because it's all he can afford, and it does the job, you're sunk. Same thing goes for the guy that has the rusty remains of an old M-H grown up in trees in his fence line. He saw 2 collectors run one up to a ridiculous price at an auction, and now thinks that the one he has is worth a fortune. If you try to buy a part from him, he either won't sell it, or will want your first born and $100 for it, no matter what it's really worth. Just my $0.11 worth (live in Nebraska and smoke cigarettes, so .02 + .09 per comment)
